Hello Kitty Hat

I made my daughter a Hello Kitty hat and though it's not perfect, my daughter loves it.

Sorry for the washed out first picture.  I used the flash on my phone and when I turned the flash off you couldn't see anything at all.  I don't know what the deal is with the lighting in my house.  Most of the time I take pictures in my son's room or in the bathroom because those are the only two rooms with good lighting.

ANYWAY...my daughter loves this hat.  I mean she really loves it.  If you've ever seen Bob's Burgers, my daughter wears her Hello Kitty hat like Louise wears her bunny ears.

I also made a beret style hat for myself.  I don't look good in hats, but I really, really like this one.

I'm going to be remaking this one using the same variegated yarn, but with either a dark purple or black yarn as the other color.  So many tails to tuck in with this hat.  I am pretty proud of the way it turned out because I had to improvise a lot.
\
Okay, that's it.  I will make my second beret/beanie hat and then no more crochet until the mystery afghan clues come out.  I will definitely be updating with WIPs of that.  Until then, I get to focus all my attention on my Geisha.  Once I finish up with the flowers on her kimono (taking FOREVER) then I will post a WIP of her.

Time to go cook dinner.  Happy stitching, everyone!

Sailor Moon glove

I'm working on a pair of Sailor Moon fingerless gloves.  I found this adorable pattern and decided that I just HAD to have it.  I've only made one so far, but it turned out really, really cute!

I have to make a couple more pairs in different senshi colors so that I can send them to friends.  I have a LOT of commissions lol  I might go buy some buttons from the craft store and replace that middle part of the bow (the "brooch") with a button to give it a more cutesy look.

I'm going to be finishing up the other glove today and then I'm going to work on my Geisha whenever my daughter goes down for a nap so I can work uninterrupted for a while.  I have two more rows of blue stitching and then I move on to the next portion of her kimono.  I'm soooo happy to be on another section finally.  I was getting bored with blue.  I mean, the blue's pretty and all, but there's just so much of it.

It's first thing in the morning here and I haven't had my coffee yet, so I'm going to go take care of that.  Happy stitching, everyone!

A recent project and Loot Crate January 2015

I have been crocheting a bit lately.  My son asked for a Link hat, so I complied only to have made it and have him tell me he doesn't want it.  My daughter on the other hand loves it, so I guess it's hers.  Here is the hat I made yesterday.

I based it on A Link to the Past, that's why there's a yellow brim.  I modified my slouchy beanie hat pattern to make this and my daughter just loves it.  I'm mostly just glad that it came out alright because I've never made a hat or even modified any crochet patterns to suit my needs.

On to Loot Crate!

You may have noticed that I didn't do a December Loot Crate post.  That's because I never got it.  I mean...I got it, but the vultures in my house (husband and son) got to it before I did and took everything.  I DID get to keep the little Joker-Batman Funko Pop! figure and the Simpson's wallet, but no pictures because they're all the way across the room and I'm just soooooo lazy today.

Anyway, on to the first Loot Crate of the year!  First up, we have:

Don't mind my husband's furry hand in the picture.  The first thing I noticed was that there was a shirt this time around.

Voltron blueprints!  My dad used to watch Voltron with me when I was a kid, so I sent that picture to him.  There was also my favorite item and the one thing I was very much hoping would be in this crate:  8-Bit sunglasses.

There was also a notebook that is meant for making comics.  I filled out the first page and was going to share it, but the drawings are rather...um...poor.  I don't know, I think I just haven't drawn anything for a while and need to practice.

Next up:

A Space Invaders (sort of) neck tie.  My husband was very, very surprised to learn that I knew how to tie a tie.  Apparently it's something of which he had no idea.  The video game thing, I'm not really sure what they were going for with that, but it is like a little video game shaped person that is on display with the rest of my Loot Crate figures on top of my entertainment center.

And last, but certainly not least:

Star Wars issue number one with a Loot Crate exclusive cover.  I'll be honest, I didn't know there was a Star Wars comic.  I mean, it doesn't surprise me, but I have never read it before.  I'm probably not going to open this and I'm just going to stick it in with my comic and manga collection.

There you have it!  January's Loot Crate!  If you aren't a member of Loot Crate and would like to get your own, you can get a subscription HERE!

Mmkay, I'm baking bread currently and was just sitting down between loaves, so I'm off.  Happy stitching, everyone!

Mystery Afghan Crochet/Knit Along

I have never joined a stitch along or a crochet along...or any other along.  So I joined The Crochet Crowd's mystery afghan crochet along.  Every week or so there's going to be a new "clue."  I just ordered 10 balls of yarn for this, so I'm hoping it turns out well!

If you'd like to join or if you are just curious about the crochet/knit along, you can check out the information HERE!  I will be posting WIP's of my progress as I am making it.  Yay for another project to take on!

Geisha WIP!

Oh, my!  I actually have a WIP for you!  This is a picture of where I was at last time next to where I am now.  I worked on it for about an hour and a half tonight, but I think it's about time for bed, so here's the WIP!

I'm finding that I'm really enjoying how pretty it looks.  The details are very nice even though it's mostly full stitches and I'm finding that the back stitching is noticeably more subtle because it's a grey instead of black.  You hardly notice it in most cases and it just looks like wrinkles in the fabric.

The colors really pop and I'm excited to see what this looks like when it's done.  I mean...I've seen the picture on the front of the kit, but the colors weren't represented very well.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, I know I did!  Happy stitching, everyone!

*Note:  sorry for my excessive use of exclamation points tonight, I'm in an awesome mood right now for some reason!

Patterns are made!

I patterned up my quilt squares for the 2015 charity quilt!  I'm really happy with these two.  The first game is my very favorite NES game Kickle Cubicle.  The second game is the very first video game that my mother bought specially for me and no one else in the house and that one is The Little Mermaid for NES.

Easy patterns to make, I know, but this is what I made (these are the images, not the patterns):

Kickle Cubicle

The Little Mermaid NES

I'm a bit nervous about The Little Mermaid as there's a LOT of blue.  I'm a bit worried I'll get bored and set it aside.  The Kickle Cubicle one I made as a pattern for last year's quilt and never got around to it because Jak took too long.

I will have a Geisha WIP soon.  I have done a lot, but comparing it to the last image shared, it really, really doesn't look like much.  I am still plugging along on her, though!

Off to bed, it's late.  Happy stitching, everyone!

Masquerade

I have a plan to crochet a skirt with this cotton thread I found at Hobby Lobby a week or so ago.  The problem is...since I've only just started crocheting, I have never worked with anything other than yarn.  So I figured I'd better make something small and get the tension and all that fun stuff just right.  So this is what I made today.  The pattern is NOT mine, I bought it on craftsy this afternoon while I was browsing.

I definitely had fun doing this one!  The pattern is HERE if you would like to try it for yourself.  Hopefully yours comes out better than mine because I apparently stitched one eye upside down and it's extremely curly.  Can't tell TOO much from the picture...but you can still tell.

Happy stitching, everyone!
